VESSELS OF SIMILAR HEIGHT AND WIDTH : 'POTS'
These vessels make the compromise between having sufficient surface to be warmed on a fire, holding an adeqaute volume of content and giving access to stir or monitor the contents.
Some were suspended over the fire, some were stood in the coals of a damped-down fire and some probably stood on stones near or in the fire. It is not a good idea to move large ceramic vessels when they are full and hot, which is why many have no obvious means of suspension. The cooked contents must have been decanted into other vessels for serving or eating.
